Subject: Please Support Critical Funding for Food Shelves & Food Banks

Families across our state are facing a deepening affordability crisis, and demand for food assistance continues to reach record levels. Food shelves and food banks are working to meet this need, but without additional support, the system cannot keep pace. As a constituent, I urge you to prioritize funding for hunger relief this session. In 2025, Minnesotans made over 9 million visits to food shelves - the fourth consecutive year of record demand and 2.5 times higher than in 2019. Today 1 in 5 Minnesota families struggling to afford the groceries they need. Two proposals this session would provide critical support to the emergency food system here in Minnesota: - HF 3624 / SF 3904: Increases Minnesota Food Shelf Program funding to $10 million annually, avoiding a 50% reduction in resources after years of one-time funding. - HF 3586 / SF 3770: Establishes a regional food bank grant program with $10 million annually to expand food distribution statewide. These investments are modest in cost but critical in impact and support every county in our state. I urge you to prioritize these proposals in the final budget negotiations to ensure that all Minnesotans can access the food they need.
