Help Stop the Largest SNAP Cuts in History!
The Senate Agriculture Committee just released their version of the federal budget reconciliation bill, and it's devastating for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the half a million people in Minnesota who rely on it to feed their families.
This bill proposes the largest cuts to food assistance in U.S. history. If passed, it would take food away from millions, including parents, caregivers, children, veterans, immigrants, and people already facing hunger.
Here’s what’s included:
-
New penalties on states that could shift millions in SNAP costs to state budgets, including up to $200 million a year to Minnesota
-
Strict work requirements for parents and caregivers, and seniors up to age 65, with no exemptions for veterans, people experiencing homelessness, or those aging out of foster care
-
Elimination of SNAP Education a vital program to support healthy families
-
Stripping food assistance away from refugees, and victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking.
This bill is cruel and unacceptable. It punishes struggling families while doing little to reduce costs. Contact your congress members now and urge them to vote NO on the Senate budget bill.
